Sue Lee Largo

February 6, 1935 – November 30, 2017

Sue Lee Largo passed away at home, surrounded by her family, on November 30, 2017 after a long illness.  She had a hard fight at the end, but put on a smile every day and fought to spend as much time as possible with her loved ones.

Sue was born on February 6, 1935 in Crownpoint, New Mexico and was raised in Smith Lake, New Mexico.  She attended school in Crownpoint until her teens when she attended Sherman Institute in Riverside, California.  She married the “love of her life” Chee Jim Largo in 1954.  Over the years, she worked as a cook and dietician for McKinley County New Mexico School District, Rehoboth Christian Hospital, San Juan Hospital, New Mexico.  She also worked many years as a Sunday School teacher at Thoreau Burean Mission Church.  She moved to Salt Lake City in 1987 to be with her daughter and grandsons.

She is the definition of strength, compassion and love.  She was the rock for her family and always will be.  She spent her life worrying about and taking care of others, especially her siblings.  She is survived by the loves of her life, her daughters Emily J. Largo of Severn Maryland and Loris (Gordon) Largo-Rhodes of West Jordan, Utah, her grandchildren Derek (Dustie) Begay of Salt Lake City and Jude Begay of Snowbird, Utah and great grandchildren Lukas and June Begay.  She is also survived by her sisters Barbara J. Largo of Smith Lake, New Mexico; Minnie Sam of Fort Defiance, Arizona; Patsy Emerson and Mildred H. Largo, both of Smith Lake, New Mexico and her brothers El Hombre Homer Lee of Continental Divide, New Mexico and Robert E Lee, Jr. of Smith Lake, New Mexico.  She will be dearly missed and always remembered.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chee Jim Largo who passed away on November 28, 1975, her son Lincoln Jim Largo who passed away on November 28, 1958, her father Robert E. Lee Sr., her mother Martha House Lee, her sisters Donna Lee Largo and Caroline Lee and her brothers Kenneth E. Lee Sr. and Raymond A. Lee.

There will be a viewing at Aspen Funeral Home, 459 West Universal Circle, Sandy, Utah, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on December 5, 2017.  Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM at Thoreau Baptist Church, Thoreau, New Mexico on Saturday, December 9, 2017 with internment at Smith Lake Cemetery and a reception immediately following at the Smith Lake Chapter House.  A celebration of Sue Lee Largo’s life will be announced later.

The family wishes to give their deepest thanks for the kind and gentle care that was given by Dr. Mark E. Boschert, Dr. Thomas C. Whittaker, Dr. Bretton Newman and the medical and support staff at Rocky Mountain Hospice.

Her family is profoundly grateful for the remarkable support from her church family at West Jordan Seventh Day Adventist Church.
